Ingredient Feature: Behind the Lip R&R

At Emilie Heathe, we keep ingredients top of mind with every product we create, and our Lip R&R is  certainly no  exception (after all, R&R is all about healing and care). It’s chock full of powerful antioxidant and hydrating additives to ensure an incredible user experience from the first application to the last. Read on for a deep dive into the star ingredients that make our lip  balm formula so special.

Shea butter

Shea butter is derived from the nuts of shea trees in East and WestAfrica and has been used as a skin conditioner for thousands of years. It’s one of the most highly-acclaimed ingredients  for  moisturization and healing, and  inhibits the breakdown of collagen cells, reducing fine lines and protecting the skin. It also contains nutrients and fatty acids (such as vitamins A and E, oleic acid, stearic acid, and more) that offer anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits, and makes the perfect topical solution  for soothing more  sensitive areas of the body (such as your lips!).

Coffee Oil

Coffee isn’t just delicious, but nutritiousespecially for the skin! Like the other star ingredients in our formula, coffee oil is teeming with antioxidants that work to protect the skin from external stressors like  free radicals, which can cause damage to cells in the forms of wrinkles, sagging skin, dry patches, dullness, uneven pigmentation, or in extreme cases, even cancer. We loaded up our formula, and complemented the coffee oil with  blueberry fruit and  white tea extracts for a powerful antioxidant punch aimed at fending off these potential stressors.

Squalane

Unlike squalene (with an E),  squalane (with an A) is hydrogenated, and therefore is more stable and has a longer shelf life. That means that this ingredient will not go bad from sitting around too long! That’s why we included it in our lip scrub.  Because  Squalane is derived from a naturally hydrating compound found in flora and fauna alike, it makes for a great topical moisturizer. Hydration is key, especially for quick-to-chap areas of the body like the lips. Also, the ingredient’s antioxidant qualities work alongside Lip R&R’s other ingredients to protect the lips from damage due to external factors. Also like shea butter, Squalane use can  boost collagen production, thus reducing fine lines and keeping your lips fuller for longer. It also  neutralizes damage caused by UV radiation and free radicals, which is extra important since it’s very easy for lip suncare to slip the mind.

Jojoba Esters

Jojoba esters are the hydrogenated product of Jojoba oil. Like in the case of squalane, hydrogenation increases the shelf life and stability of jojoba. This ingredient is extracted from the seeds of the Jojoba plant grown in the arid regions of Mexico and the southwestern portion of the United States, and have been used in tribal medicines by the Natives of these lands for generations. Jojoba increased in popularity around the 1970s as  restrictions surfaced around other emollients and has continued to trend for its many skin  benefits. Hydration, antibacterial properties, hypoallergenic qualities, and soothing abilities make it especially beneficial for the more sensitive and thinner skin on your lips.
