With a harsh winter in full force and chilling temperatures hitting hard, it’s difficult not to take notice of your skin. After all, You might think hunkering down and staying indoors can shield you from dryness and dullness, but dry (and often polluted) air inside your home can actually make matters worse. We’ve certainly been there, which is why we’ve asked members of the Emilie Heathe team to share some of the products and techniques that have helped them get through. From face serums and masks to body oils and creams (and yes, your hair needs some loving too), read on as some of the biggest beauty junkies we know break down their top picks and tips for keeping hydrated and bright.
I finally added a face oil to my skincare routine and it helped my dry spots a bunch. I’ve steered away from using oils on my face in the past because I have combination skin and am prone to breakouts, but I use Kiehl’s Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil Herbal Concentrate on my face daily. It’s a super effective dry oil that doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin at all. On days I’m feeling extra dry, I use Province Apothecary Rejuvenating + Hydrating Face Serum.
On days when Iwant to treat myself, I use Ole Henriksen Cold PlungePore Mask. It tightens up my pores like crazy, and my skin feels extra clean after use. I will also apply Sol De Janeiro Bum Bum Cream to my body (it smells so good!) and OUAI Hair Oil to my hair (skin isn’t the only thing that gets dry in the winter!).
It’s so hard to narrow down my top favorite products for winter skincare! I love my Dermaflash One Speed for gentle exfoliation. My skinglows immediately after use, and it makes makeup application so much smoother. I finally bought Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream after thinking about it for weeks. Like the name suggests, it’s quite rich, so I’d recommend it for your night-time routine. I also use VennAdvanced Multi-Perfecting Red Oil Serum for an extra boost of moisture because it’s packed with botanical ingredients and helps keep my dullness and dryness at bay.
In the winter, I use a humidifier at night to help retain my skin’s moisture, and I always drink lots of water. It’s definitely easy to forget to drink your recommended 10 cups a day, but never underestimate how important water is for your skin! Lastly, when I want to treat myself to some self care, I blow my hair out with my Amika Blow Dryer Brush for lots of volume. Then, I’ll do a nice face mask to relax, use luscious face oils on my hands, and give myself a mani-pedi.
It can be difficult keeping up with a structured skincare routine every single day, especially during a pandemic, but I’ve started using an air humidifier and air purifier at night when I’m sleeping to help with dryness. I’m also using Herbivore Jasmine Body Oil on my hands (paired with a hand cream).
I like to treat myself on the weekend to some extra R&R and pamper myself with EviDenS de Beauté The Special Mask! I also follow a lot of facial yoga experts, so I like to massage my face after applying oils and moisturizers. This helps make my skin look plump and stimulates lymphatic drainage.
I like to keep it pretty simple. The first step in my routine is applying Heritage Store Rosewater + Glycerin Hydrating Facial Mist. Then, I follow with Radha Beauty Rosehip Oil. This one is USDA certified organic and pure rosehip! I layer moisturizers, and I use two different ones at night.
When I really want to feel special, I make sure my nails look fresh (duh), and spend extra time using my gua sha, reading a book before bed, and sleeping a few extra minutes or hours if I can! Lots of rest is really reflected in my skin.
I love love love skincare! I’m a La Roche-Posay loyalist, so my must-haves from the brand include Cicaplast Baume and anything from its sensitive skin line. I also love Profuse Essencele Filler C (anything with hyaluronic acid for me is the best!). No matter the time of year, I always use my Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen because I still get sunburns in the winter.
When I really want to pamper myself, I use my Kiehl's Calendula and Aloe Soothing Mask and layer on lip balm. Smooth lips are a must!
I use a lot of Tata Harper products, including the Water Lock Moisturizer + Resurfacing Mask. I also like Drunk Elephant's Protini and Retinol creams, and Tula's 24-7 Moisture Cream. For sun protection, I'll mix a few Coola Sun Silk Drops into my moisturizer or foundation. I'm also loving Supergoop! Glowscreen for added radiance, and am a big fan of Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balms for a touch of color and moisture.
I don't tend to get too dry in the winter, but if and when I do, I will incorporate a face oil or rich night cream into my routine. Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil (now also available in a retinol version) is also great for keeping the body hydrated and smooth.
When I’m in need of some extra pampering, baths are my go-to! I gravitate toward soothing/moisturizing cleansers (Indie Lee's De-Stress Body Wash is in my current rotation), and will throw in a LUSH Scrubee or bath bomb for a little extra TLC. I also try to do a hair mask once a week.
